Use ipmasqadm to setup port forwarding etc.
http://juanjox.linuxhq.com/
You'll also need to build one of these modules for the kernel:
ip_masq_portfw
ip_masq_mfw
(there is another one - cant think of it right now)
I personally like mfw. You set a rule using ipchains using the -m (mark)
option and then all packets matching this rule are marked with the value you
specified. then using ipmasqadm you specify what to do with those marked
packets, e.g
ipchains -A input -i eth1 -p TCP -d <local_IP> www -m 1 -j ACCEPT
Marks all incoming packets for your web server with value 1.
ipmasqadm mfw -A -m 1 -r <internal host to forward to> <port #>
Forward all marked packets to the internal host running the web server!

forgive me, but I can't see the point:
/bin/mount is r/x by everyone and /dev/scd0 is rwx for everyone.
this is ok, /dev/cdrom is just a --> link to /dev/scd0.
fstab says to mount /dev/scd0 (you could also say /dev/cdrom) to
/mnt/cdrom with fs=iso9660, _not_ automatically at boot-time, read-only
if done, and every user is able to do so (don't care about the following
0 0, that's special).
assuming the directory /mnt/cdrom (rwxr-xr-x root root) exists, you can
mount your cd by just typing
----zip----
#>
#>mount /mnt/cdrom
#>
----zip----
btw, to my knowledge these files etc you mentioned are owned by root,
but group should not be users but root also. what distribution do you
use and is this root/users permanent on all files ?

Of course it runs on Linux, why wouldn't it? This was a FAQ about 2-3

Situation = ISP address dynamically assigned - no files changed at
all between dial-ups.
Result #1 = If I get assigned xx.xx.xx.11 by chance, everything
fine.
Result #2 = Any other number such as xx.xx.xx.13 results in
connection ONLY to the local ISP sites - I.E. my own web page, their
home pages. There appears to be some kind of a DNS problem? Where ??
FWIW - My local ISP (new) can supply no information, not even what
protocol to use. They do not allow shell login so I'm unable to look
at any expected prompts to make a script. I tried Kppp and PaP, worked
right away, but with above problem. Netstat -rn shows exactly the same
routing each time with the exception of the ISP's assigned route.
Frustrated, and yes . . . gonna be looking for a new ISP, my old one
worked fine, but sold out their dial-up accounts.
Any ideas very much appreciated.

Good Day,
Intalled redhat 6.0 mandrake with KDE desktop(man this is awsome). The
problem is that ICMP is trying to send something to a invald address
over the internet. My question is what is ICMP, and how am I going to
fix this error. I have tryed to look around for help files, newgroups,
linux sites with no luck in finding my answer what ICMP is. I know my
way around the filesystem somewhat, I am still considered somewhat of a
newbie.

hi all,
I want to run a small webserver (dhttpd) on port 81; it is supposed to
serve somewhat sensitive internal documentation so I'd like to allow
access to it only for a given range of ip numbers;
I guess it would be possible running the webserver from inetd with tcpd
but I'd like to run it as a daemon; so I guess I'd need a way to say
"connections on port 81 only allowed from IP's xxx.yyy.zzz"; is it
possible?
TIA for any help!

I guess I got this far and wimped out - I quit trying when I got Netscape
email working.
But I'd like to try to help: if rh 6 is like rh 5, SENDING mail with Pine
(or whatever) should be no big deal - the defaults worked fine for me...
GETTING mail, as far as I know, involves the FETCHMAIL program - that's (I
think) what you should focus on.
I say this because SENDMAIL is reported to be a real bitchy app to
configure - don't want to see you go there if that's not your problem.
On the other hand, to be any good at linux, I guess you'll have to face it
eventually. But for starters, I'd go with the easy ways first - less
frustrating that way...
Good luck!

connects fine, but won't disconnect. I'm using the same configuration and

How do I know what "Rule 32" is? I know proto 1 is the protocol defined in

I believe 0 (zero) and 255 are both reserved in all four parts of the IP
address. A zero refers to a network, and 255 means all systems. Try changing
the zero to a number greater than zero and less than 255.

Been there, done that!
I am fairly new also, but I have my Linux box up and running on @home.
Log into your KDE session and open a terminal window, su to root and start
linuxconf
Under the Networking tab open
Basic Host Info:
Adapter 1: set Primary Name+domain (the name @home assigned to you)
plus domain
Aliases: assigned name
IP Address: go ahead and use the one winipcfg showed
Netmask: likely 255.255.255.0
Network Device: eth0
Kernel Module: I believe yours would be 3x59x
choose quit, then click on
DNS tab & enter then primary and secondary DNS servers @home specifies. Then
under "search domain" enter your domain.
Routing & Gateways
Set Default: enter the gateway IP as defined by @home
Configure the routed daemon: be sure both boxes are unchecked
(unless you are using your box as a router... in that case enable, but
better have firewall up)
QUIT and ACTIVATE changes... Then down the box and restart
Once you are logged in su to root and type: route
This should show you what your routing table looks like. Then ping your
eth0's IP to be sure its talking, then ping the PDNS & Gateway addresses....
Hopefully you'll be talking to @home's servers.
This worked for me, I sure hope it helps.

I don't think there is a 'typical' for those as thtree are more
variations of the so-called ne2000 card than Orville R. has popcorn

I just bought a cheap, no-namer (Addtron) pci version to replace an isa

compiled into the kernel. It then checks in as IRQ=5 and IO=0xe800!
However, that one works, handling a flood ping for 5 minutes at a time
with no errors.

It's not a hardware/BIOS thing... that stuff is all turned off... I did
not mean sleep as in an actuall mode- it was the only way I could describe
it. Perhaps ABIT motherboards go to sleep even if you set them not to??
I wouldn't guess this is the case.

are you sure you are using the proper syntax for the mount command?
mount 192.168.0.2:/mnt/cdrom /whateverlocaldirectory/youwant/
