I am accessing the Internet via eth0 connection.
This part seems to be working right.
I am suspecting that when the chat is requested
it sends an IP and port number of my server
and the server does not know what to do with
the connection.
I think I should be forwarding this connection to
the box inside my network.
Thanks for your help.

I'm in the process of setting up my Linux box as my firewall. A few
bits of data first.
PacBell DSL 384-1.5/128
Linux is running on a 486 DX4 120
Other machines on the home net are Win98
Questions:
I want to use video conferencing with the Win98 boxes to the outside
world. Can I do this? I use mostly either Intel Video Phone or Net
Meeting.
Is a 486 DX4 120 fast enough to firewall the DSL connection?
Any replies are appreciated. If you want to reply by email also that
would certainly be nice but I'll check back here to see any replies.

Hi. Netstat on my linux box is showing the following:
a TCP connection from port 2234 to port 13452 on a remote machine. The
IP address comes back to ATT, and seemed to be someone's dial-up
account. It seems like an odd port to have a connection to, and the
status was FIN_WAIT1.
Even after disconnecting my PPP connection, this would show on my
netstat output for over 40 minutes.
I am conceerned it is/was some type of "netbus" type program, but I
don't have enough unix experience to be sure.
Does anyone know what this could have been? Thanks.
PS - If possible, cc replies to [EMAIL PROTECTED] also. Thank you.

All figured out, thanks for the replies. For those of you still having
problems with this card (seems common), type this at the RH linux terminal
prompt while logged in as root:
modprobe via-rhine
That's it. Later.

Rudolf,
Thanks for getting back to me. It turns out I just wasn't giving it enough
time - after almost 10 minutes it came back with a message that it couldn't
find its own hostname (I hadn't set up the networking configuration on Linux
completely). Anyway, at this point I can report that it is working under
Linux - although I haven't tested out every function yet.

Subject: ADSL connection times out ?
Date: Wed, 4 Aug 1999 22:15:18 -0700
Following an upgrade to RH6.0 (several actually), I am finally closer to
isolating a network problem: it appears that the network card attached to my
ADSL modem stops receiving after around 5 minutes of inactivity. This
happens regardless of which interface (eth0, eth1, etc) I assign to the ADSL
connection or which hardware / driver combination I use. The ADSL modem is
an OrcKit FastInternet. Note that I don't have this problem under RH5.x
(i.e. 2.0.36 kernel).
Has anyone come across anything similar ?
Thanks in advance,
Hervey.

I'm looking for a quick-n-dirty hack off the net to listen on port L on the
local machine and whenever something connects to it, to open a connection
to port P on some specified IP address, and then to forward the bytes which
flow until the connection closes.
nc (netcat) will do the local listening part, but its output is to stdout
so it's not appropriate.
tcpserver will listen and can execute nc to make the outbound connection.
That should be able to do what I want. However, is there a single program
out there with both part-functions combined?
Nick.

NetWare does not 'share' printers
Nit-picking aside here's what I did:
Note: this is from memory... and I'm assuming you can log in to your
NetWare tree/server without problems...
I'm using a NetWare 4.11 server. I'd guess that NetWare 5 is quite
similar.
Since I'm running a small LAN, my NetWare printers are off the root of
the NDS tree. That way all users, no matter what their context is, can
access the printers.
I created a user in BOTH Linux and NetWare called 'Printer_User'. THe
NDS context of Printer_User is off the root. I assigned a password to
Printer_User.
Then I went to the Linux PC and opened (as root) control-panel from an
X-term window. I clicked the printer icon and then added an NCP printer,
making sure that 'Printer_User' was the name of the (dummy) Linux user.
I also used the password I had previously chosen in NetWare.
Saved and exited control-panel. Then logged into the NetWare server, as
myself... not root. Printed a text file without problem.
Now if this is too confusing (hell, I did it and it's confusing to ME)
let me know via e-mail and I'll prepare some screen captures and send
them to you. Good Luck!

After several days of being up, when we "ps ax", there are often 100's of

I think you cannot simply use sendmail with -t option. I have encountered
problems when sending from Hotmail. If you have 2 or more addresses in the
"To:" field, sendmail could sort the mail correctly. Do let me know if I am
wrong.

Hi everybody,
I have a cable modem with a static e-mail address and I would like to receive
mail for every user configured on my machine (e.g. john@[194.85.238.82] and
mary@[194.85.238.82])
I'd like to send/receive mail through a mail/smtp server. I've installed
imap*.rpm and adjusted /etc/services. imapd and ipop3d are present in
/usr/sbin. When I do:
telnet <my static IP address> 110
it says OK and ready. How should I configure my netscape?
Do I need to configure fetchmail/sendmail? Those two I have currently installed.
What is the exact purpose of those two apps? I a newbie and I've read almost all
the howto's but I can't figure it out.
Please help.
Desperate seeking newbie.

Hello,
I use callback from icce on linux, and I want that it is possible to
connect
from win95 with callback (with DUN) or with simple dial-in, but the
problem
is the options file for PPPD which is common to the two connecting ways
so
some options like "auth login -chap +pap" go right for the dial-in mode
but
go wrong with the callback mode.
Have you got an idea?

Subject: DNS Setup

Hi,
I am facing a performance problem with my DNS. The DNS is used to
service the clients on my LAN and whenever it requires to resolve names
outside the network, forwarders will be used. The problem is that when
I am not connected to the Internet, a telnet from a client to the Server
is very slow. But once the connection is up, a telnet will be very
fast. I figure that it is due to the DNS name lookup for the
forwarders. If the network is not up, the server will take a longer
time to timeout.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

if there is a default , it would be irq 3 or 10 and port 300.
with most cards, you get a diskette for dos to set/check these parms
under dos.
if it really is ne2000 compatible, getting this diskette from another
