Contact the FBI. They love to bust guys like these. I had a similar
problem and they took care of him real fast. Be sure you have
documented every incidence, occurance, background, etc before you
contact them.

If you don't like the way the "mainstream Linux distros" do it, why not
release your own?
You could call it, "Jeff's Way" and go IPO like Red Hat just did once it

The Linux driver will figure out the IRQ once it gets the I/O address.
If the driver is compiled into the kernel (not a module), it will
probe I/O addresses 0x300, 0x280, 0x320, 0x340, and 0x360. If your
card is working, it will very likely respond to one of those. Then
the driver will report the IRQ.
If all you have is the driver as a module, you could just try loading
it with "modprobe ne io=0x300", then io=0x280 etc. until it sees the card.

According to @Home, most providers such as Comcast, Media One, etc, DO
NOT provide support for any OS other than Windows 95, 98, NT. I called
Comcast and they said specifically you could not run their service on
anything other than the MS packages listed. If anyone has a workaround,
I have a cable modem with 5 IPs just itching for an Apache server...

I seem to recall that I did
ipmasqadm autofw -r tcp 6000 -h <host 1> :0.0
ipmasqadm autofw -r tcp 6001 -h <host 2> :0.0
then connect via
client -display <masq>:0.0
or
client -display <masq>:1.0
However that was a year ago, and I don't use it anymore....

I am also searching for 'Real NAT' on RH6.0. But I can't. I am thinking of
using IP aliasing together with ipmasqadm to a work-around. In this case,
The firewall will listen on serval IPs (193.42.1.42, 193.42.1.43), then
using
ipmasqadm do the forwarding to the internal IP.
However, I think it only work for one direction only. i.e.
192.168.1.42 <-x- 193.42.1.42
192.168.1.43 <-x- 193.42.1.43
I haven't tried it but I am going to. Anyone has any idea.

Martin NG

I don't see any mention of you having setup an ethernet NIC (re-compiled
your kernel to use an ethernet NIC) or if you have setup DHCP.
To start with, you must have an ethernet driver compiled (or running as
a module) in your kernel. I'm running the same Linux distribution as you
and you can easily follow the manual and setup the ethernet h/w by
reading the manual.
The DHCP s/w is another thing. It is not shipped with any of the
distributions to the best of my knowledge. Certainly not with SuSE. Here
is a web site that has the necessary s/w...
http://www.isc.org
It runs, it works, yeeha! You have to compile it but its a very small
package. Its also free. It also comes with man pages and readme files to
help you set it up.
Good Luck!

Subject: Problems sending mail to my server using @home
Date: Sat, 07 Aug 1999 01:55:18 GMT
I am having problems in sending email to my RH6 machine from an
outside source such as Hotmail or my work computer. I have no problem
sending email out from the box, or remotely retrieving my mail via
POP. I currently have an account with @home and a curently stable IP.
In test #1, I can send email by using an IP address with no problem.
When viewing the email, I noticed that my host name was cutoff from
the address.
In test #2, the Hotmail server could not find that abbreviated
address. I understand why this does not work, but thought I would try
it.
In test #3, I tried sending mail using the full name, but that was
bounced back also.
In the test #4, I sent this email out while I was actually sitting in
Linux. It looks as this makes it.
In final test #5, it seems my computer sees the mail, but refused it
for some reason?? Any ideas??
cheeser.penguinpowered.com works fine when going to my site via http.
THANKS for any assistance or direction one can provide.

how are you planing to do that? the mac address is 48bit while ip
addresses are 32bit. even if you'd decide to chop off 16bit, you also
have to consider that all boxes *should* be in the same subnet (meaning:
all mac#s need to be in a very small range, unlikely to happen)

Trevor,
You hit on a subject I have been promoting for about a year.
Unfortunately, each time I do, I get blasted with spam, but here goes
again.....
Those of us such as yourself in the business world trying to provide
cost effective solutions for small to mid size companies who can't
afford to spend $5000 per machine on MS products have turned to Linux as
an alternative. Unfortunately, Linux "APPLICATIONS" are not up to the
feature and user interface standard that MS products have achieved.
We have spoken at length with COREL and other companies who claim to
support the GNU philosophy with such products as WordPerfect 8, but the
problem is there are no cohesive strategies for fonts, future upgrades,
integration with other software, or even working with printers (as many
Linux users know). Further, these companies have no plans to market
"current" software packages to Linux users and are only releasing 3 to 5
year out of date packages that they have no further commercial use for.
There has to be a better way. Linux is a first class operating system
and should be treated as such. I have organized a company together to
plan, create, collect and distribute user friendly, cohesive, uniform
standard (fonts, printers, file sharing, etc) applications for use under
Linux.
Anyone who has such programs, or who would like to work on developing
programs for sale at nominal cost to promote the office/work/home value
of the Linux operating system, please contact me at:
