I belive it is 'ne' your looking for. (look into
/lib/modules/Your-Kernel-Version/net/ for a 'ne.o'
(there is propbably a 'ne2k-pci.o' there as well, but your card is
isa.. )
But some ne2000 clones need to have pnp shut off in the card itself
with the dos-setup wich normally follows the card or can be found at
manufacturers homesite.
So if it dont help to use the ne-module, maybe setup is needed..

Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1999 13:30:46 GMT
I am trying to set up a diskless Linux box:
specifications:
P133
32 MB RAM
3COM Ethernet card
Intel Motherboard
All goes well, when I swich on the diskelss box, it makes
contact with the server, gets it's IP (192.168.0.101) etc, etc.
But when it want's to load the kernel image form the server is
where the problem's start. I have to make Tagged Image with a program
called mknbi-linux, well I get the following error message:
mknbi-linux: Could not find magic number in kernel image.
I've tried everything but I always get this message, what am I doeing
wrong?
Why is the magic number missing, and how to solve it.
Could you please help me?

Hi
I have a problem with the qmail programm. Everything seems to work well, but
my logfile says the following very often:

I'm using RH 5.2 and the command I use to mount my external ZIP is:
mount -t vfat /dev/sda4 /mnt/zip
this works for me. You might want to check permissions on /dev/sda1 and
on /zip and change them appropriately.
You might want to try:
chmod u-s "/directories/to/set/permissions/on" (excluding quotes)
A good book to purchase would be Linux in a Nutshell. It has all of the
commands for Linux as well as all of the options. I purchased it a few
days ago and it has helped Allot!
Hope this helps.

I don't know about every modem on the market, but I know the following:
Most PCI modems are winmodems.
Most "modems" with lucent circuits are winmodems.
I would guess that you haven't really made an upgrade.

The only CCP algorithms that Linux supports are free ones. You can find
these in "man pppd" and if the CISCO supports one of them then you only
need to configure pppd to use it.
Pppd negotiates Van Jacobson header compression by default.

I assume a.b.c.d address is in the 192.168.0.x block.
If thats the case I suspect there is a problem with the /etc/printcap
file.
If thats not the case check to be sure you've opend the lpd port in your
IP Masquerading box.
Hope it helps

For the Linksys card try using ne2k-pci.o as the driver. I'm not sure
how to select it in Mandrake/Redhat but should be able to through the

I have to set up a linux server for use with WinNT clients (with the SMB

recycled folder, but any other solutions are welcome, too). Is there any
way to tell samba to move the files to /recycled instead of unlinking
them? If not, is there any other SMB server where this is possible?

And that's probably why you were broken into. rlogin
is completely insecure.
Use ssh for remote login ONLY. (Telnet is a security
