Well this applies to the 3c509B which is PnP. To disable PnP AND set the
media you should use the DOS utility supplied with the card. After using
the utility you should follow with a hard reset just to make sure all the
settings you changed will take effect.
To download the latest drivers and utilities go to:

I'm not sure what you mean. What do crackers have to do with my question?
Maybe I wasn't clear. I'm referring to authorized people on our network
visiting sites that have nothing to do with the work they are doing.
Internet access has been given to them to help them do their job better -
not create an alternate recreation zone. (we realize that "browsing" is
sometimes helpful on a personal level and don't crack down on people in
general.) It's the extremists that we're trying to stop - the ones who put a
heavy load on the routers.

Subject: port forwarding problem
Date: Sat, 21 Aug 1999 19:09:11 GMT
Hi there,
I have a quiet urgent problem with IP port forwarding in combination
with IPCHAINS. I have a 2.2.5 kernel (Suse 6.1) compiled with the port
forwarding option as described in the IP Masq-Mini-Howto. For port
forwarding I use IPMASQADM. My problem is that I can access from inside
to outside Web, FTP ... and I can receive mails via IP port forwarding
(port 25, SMTP) but the port forwarding for port 80 (WWW) is not
working. When I say IPMASQADM portfw -l the forwarding list seems to be
okay. Why is it not working? Are there any further log options to see a
more detailed forwarding status?
Thanks for your help.
regards
Claus

You're missing any useful information for troubleshooting your problem. "It
doesn't work" is not very useful in troubleshooting.
After DHCPCD has configured Linux correctly (and, it doesn't appear to be
correct, since it doesn't work!), post some information, like the output of:
# ifconfig
# netstat -rn
and anything else that might be related to your problem. And, no, the brand

Does anyone know how to resolve the domain for an IP that does not
resolve?
I work in IS and have been trying to resolve IPs, but many of them do
not return any significant information using nslookup or dig.
Using traceroute, I can see which network(ISP) they're on, but that's
about it. Is there any reason why the next to last hops would not be
their ISP?

It means that your network card is in a mode where it can listen to
traffic to/from all network cards on your subnet. Normally the card
only listens to traffic directed to itself, but in certain circumstances
it's benificial to listen to all traffic. Those circumstances include
legitimate uses such as debugging network drivers and not so legitimate
activities such as viewing other users private information.

You need to have at least the basic parts of KDE installed. Try
http://www.kde.org. Either that or you have the wrong .rpm for your
system.

Do you have DNS setup correctly? Try, "ping news" if that doesn't work
try "ping news.<yourISP>.com" if that works use it instead. If that
doesn't work then you haven't setup you networking correctly.
> PS. using Mandrake 6 distribution
Is Mandrake based on RH 5.2 or 6? If 6, then you do have the wrong
.rpm. for the kde program.

Don't hate. Diald was around for a while and did good job. Now you have
alternative - "pppd demand". here is my command line which works fine for me.
pppd /dev/ttyS1 115200 modem lock my.ip.adrdress:isp.gateway.address crtscts
demand idle 180 connect /etc/ppp/connect defaultroute holdoff 5
/etc/ppp/connect is a common chat script.
If you have dynamic IP addresses assigned, pppd options will be different.
Just look through this newsgroup and you will find them.

Ok short and simple I wanne run xwindows applications on my windows 98 ,
well this I have gotten to work.
Now the only major thing I have is that I can not get Linux (RH6) to
automaticly do my export display.
I also do not know where to start to be honest I would expect it to be a
logon variable that will get the client's IP adress and then will set the
export variable.
But like I said I have no idea how to go about it , I run Red Hat 6.0
straight from the FTP no changes.
Any pointers would be helpfull.
I use Exeed as my X server on my clients and I use or Secure CRT or CRT to
connect depending on my Client but mostly it is SecureCRT.
Replies or to me direct or to the group , direct is preffered.

Yes, it's possible. Register the domain to the same IP address. Setup
a name-based virtual host in apache, then have it redirect to another
port number that forwards to your internal web server. It's not going
to be really easy, but it is definitely possible to do.

I don't know if the card you have supports it, but it would really need
to be turned into two serial devices. (ttyS0 and ttyS1) before Linux
could connect with both channels simultaneously. I would guess that
you aren't going to be able to do it with a single card, but they
probably make another card that has support for something like that
built in.

Sure it is possible.
The squid server should have (just like all the other machines on your network)
hav ethe default gateway set to the localnets ip address of the Masquerading

Its possible to register it and host the name on the same web server using

First setup modem using modemtool. Then you need to figure out if you
need PPP or SLIP to your ISP. I used PPP_Install (a perl script) to take
care of all my PPP install. You will need to create a device (i.e. ppp0)
for your dialup. I use ppp0 for mine. When I want to log into the ISP I
use ifup ppp0 (which calls the ISP) and ifdown ppp0 (which disconnects).

Yes you can. Thats standard with imap that you create folders on the
server in wich you can hold your mail.
There is even a new version of imap (not the Cyrus Imap but another one
can't remember it's name) it even allows you to share folders with other
users with the help of ACL's
