I am trying a linux box for SMTP. Its running sendmail. Internal mails are
working fine. It can send mails to the internet but it cant receive any
mails. e.g If I send a mail from hotmail.com to this server I am trying the
mail comes back saying :

Looks like my server is not accepting the SMTP connection and thus try for
my service provider ( 205.142.28.17) whose preference is 30.. as in the case
of the hotmail error message.

Is the problem with my service provider or my server. Does my server need to

definetly running sendmail at port 25 as deamon .

Can anybody tell me whats happening ????

Both cards work, but one works "slow". Ie. I can ping both of them,
telnet to both, but the eth1 card responds very slow. I had this problem
earlier, when using a http-proxy. It took quite a while before the page
(HTML) showed up, and then slowly the images appeared, like on
a very slow internet connection. When I started to use "redir" instead
the problem disappeared (I tried Apache, TIS FWTK and both gave
a slow response, so I think it has something to do with binding to
an address/ eth card).

But now I have the same problem with telnet. A long delay before
it sees the other side.

Anyway, I am not at location at this moment, but I try your suggestion,
compiling support into the kernel.

Kind regards,

John

I tried to send this post lastnight, but I don't see it, anyway...
Does anyone know how linuxconf connects and disconnects from ppp0. Can
it be duplicated from the command line? I have checked the /etc/ppp dir for
the script, but these do not show the updates that linuxconf must be using
to connect and disconnect ppp0. Any help or pointers greatly appreciated.

This should be supported by the Intel EtherExpress 10/100
module eepro.o, eepro100.o, or eexpress.o. A "modprobe ee*"
should load the correct one.

Hello Mike,
Well to start you would need a amateur radio license
to broadcast to the satellites, but there is no law against receiving
the signals, first you would have to have ax25 support compiled in
your kernel, I assume if you read the ax25 howto you realize a tnc
and a radio are needed if your still with me then the ax25-utilities
is what you need and all the doc's you need will be in that package.

ftp://ftp.hes.iki.fi/pub/ham/linux/ax25 and the package you need
is ax25-utils-2.1.42a.tar.gz

Seems I saw what might be a sat tracking program microsat in the
same directory.

I would like to set my linux (redhat 5.2) allowing all ports of both TCP
& UDP can be translated/forwarded from a modem PPP connection to a
network adaptor connecting to a LAN.
I have enabled /proc/sys/net/ip_forward to 1. What else should I do? I
have set nothing using ipfwadm... so, there shouldn't be any policy
there.
Could someone give me a hand?
many thx!

Subject: Re: eth0 and ppp0 networking on same machine

Hi Phil,

Thanks for taking the time to reply - I really appreciate it.

No, I can not ping the router itself on 192.168.1.254. The router is
actually a Mac running a program called IPNetRouter on my home LAN. With
that setup I can access the Internet with both a PC running Windows 98
(same one that dual boots Linux) and an Apple PowerBook. The IPNetRouter
machine dials our office Cisco 2509 and picks up a real IP on its ppp
interface and its eth interface is assigned 192.168.1.254 and it's doing IP
Masquarading.

Currently, my PowerBook is in the office so I have nothing else to ping to
other than the IPNetRouter machine. My PC when booting into Windows 98
using the same network card and everything accesses the Internet just fine
through the IPNetRouter box. There's no firewall built into the IPNetRouter
box.

I think you might be right - maybe my NIC is not configured properly but
when I ping something I can see the packets go out (lights blink) on my
little Ethernet mini-hub and the ifconfig command shows the packets too.
I'm using an old 3Com 3C509-TPO NIC (ISA). How can I check and change what
driver I have installed for it?

Thanks for your time and any insight.

Best regards,
Derek

Hi,

We have a 25 m/c network with Linux RH5.2 being the samba server m/c and
other m/cs are Win95/NT. Linux box is directly connected to internet
