In article <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED] says...
Thanks Etienne,
Yes, I have 3.0.13, and should have said so. :)
Actually I have had success using a low memory
range: 0x0c0000-0xdffff. For some reason high
memory remains unavailable.
I'm now trying to get the card to talk on the
network.
Can anyone verify which driver should be being used
for an Accton EN2226? Seems to be xirc2ps_cs.
Cheers,
Paul.

Just seeing if anyone knows how to get the Linux drivers for the AcerNetxus

is good).
Thanx in advance.

Just an idea: Maybe you could hack syslogd so that there's a second daemon
(rsyslogd ?) on another port collecting stuff from other machines and logging
it somehow.
If I find some spare time, I'll look into it.

Grep for "interesting" ports (telnet, r*, etc) and look into these if you
are interested in high security (but since you block them, you could probably
ignore them).

This is a repost because i simple can't solve the problem and i realy
need help with this one!
I have a problem regarding telnet. When i try to telnet from the outside
world
into my server I get a time out and that's it no login or access denied!
Tough
if I telnet from the inside it works fine!
Here is my setup:
486 firewall with 2 nic's (eth0 and eth1)
DHCPd with a cable modem on eth0 (out.side.ip.number)
eth2 (192.168.0.1) is connected to a hub providing internet to my
internal
network
Now when I telnet to the firewall's "out.side.ip.adress" from e.g.
192.168.0.4 no problem! Telnetting on the firewall machine to itself
works fine to. Now when I try to telnet form "some.where.out.there" to
my linuxbox I get a time out and nothing more, though ftp and http work
fine from anywhere!! my /etc/host.allow says ALL:ALL
and /etc/host.deny are empty!
Can somebody explain to me how I can configure my box so that I can
telnet into it from anywhere on the planet?
I tried fixing it for 2 days an gave up on it (shouldn't but no more
time)
I hope it is a simple fix :)
Thanks!

I had the same problem! In my case I had a "broken" dhcpd version. I
have a cable modem connected to the @home network. @home requeres that
you send your hostname when queering the DHCP server.
Try this first before you get the working dhcpd!
dhcpd -h put-your-hostname-here
If this doesn't work go to my home page and get the working dhcpd and
execute the above command again with the replaced dhcpd!
My home page is at:
http://CC3417-A.hnglo1.ov.nl.home.com
I hope this was your question!
Greetings Robert!

I'm more interested in the ports that I can't seem to find any
information on. Some of the packets may be normal, stray bootp and ARP
traffic? I had some come in on some pretty strange ports and I had a
series of ICMP packets that failed the checksum.

A misleading error messages, really means "I can't create the
directory for whatever reason"
Something is wrong with permissions. What does 'ls -ld
<dirname>' in Linux say, where <dirname> is the directory you
are trying to create your folder in?
You should see a line like this:
drwxr-sr-x 49 smpitts smpitts 5120 Aug 24 14:24
/home/smpitt
d - directory
rwx - read, write, and execute (list the contents) access for
the user that created the directory (smpitts)
r-s - read and setgid execute permission for the group the user
is in
r-x - read and execute world permission
When using SAMBA, you have the permissions of whatever user you
are
logged into NT as. In order to create files/dirs or delete
files/dir
in a directory, you need to have write permission on the
directory.
chmod +uw will give user-level write permission on the
directory
Subsitute g for group-level, w for world-level, and 'a' to add
all
at once
Substitute x for execute and r for read

Subject: delaying eth1 initialization
Date: Wed, 25 Aug 1999 12:50:47 GMT
Hi,
I'm new to Linux, have Mandrake 6.0 and have been having problems
setting up my second NIC card. I just re-installed last night, and am
able to get the 1st to work every time, but the 2nd nic keeps giving
the "delaying eth1 initialization" error upon bootup. I have the info
in /etc/lilo.conf to append="ether=10,0x300,eth1" and also info in
/etc/conf.modules I believe the name of the file is... I have a 3com
3c590 for eth0, and a 3com 3c509 for eth1.
Once I boot, I can type in the following and it will work
insmod 3c509
ifconfig eth1 <IP>
How do I get the card to work upon bootup???
I have read all the Multi-networking faqs, but they don't really say
what to do if something doesn't work (at least what I read)
Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem. I'm running RH 6.0 using the latest version of
pump and my card is configured correctly. Right now, I'm manually fixing
all the IP information and running fine. This will do for now, but
eventually I would like to get DHCP working. I suspect that either the
DHCP broadcast messages aren't occuring, or they aren't in the particular
format my ISP likes (I need the hostname). I have the line:
pump -r -i eth0 -h `hostname`
in ifup and ifdown, and HOSTNAME is configured to be the right thing. The
pump process is running at startup, but never completing the transaction.
As in your case I can do it with a previous Linux install as well as from
WIN 98.
So the question is, how can I figure out what's being sent out by the
daemon and where is the source to pump so that I might hack it up if
necessary.
tcpdump doesn't work because eth0 never gets initialized (tcpdump comes
back with a failure on exec). If I manually ifconfig eth0, then try to
manually run tcpdump/pump, tcpdump gives me an error (SIOCFG) and doesn't
seem to capture any broadcast type messages (which should occur in DHCP).
Although it does seem to capture some other unrelated packets (They still
occur after pump process is killed).
I don't use tcpdump very much, so I might not be doing that part right.
Anyone have any comments or know the answer to the following questions?
1. How can I capture the DHCP messages before eth0 has been initialized
2. If I can't do 1., how can I manually initialize eth0 and run tcpdump so
that I can see the pump (DHCP) messages.
3. Where is the source code to the latest version of pump?

Hi all,
I am trying to set up fetchmail to multidrop, i.e fetch a bunch of mail msgs
from a dial up ISP and then distribute them to local users on my linux machine.
The mail is fetched OK but it all gets delivered to my account.
What am i doing wrong:
my fetchmailrc is:
poll pop3.freeserve.net with proto pop3 : user xxx.freeserve.co.uk pass xxx
to peter jim here
pass8bits
forcecr
msgs are addressed: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]
cheers
