actually, yes.
the eql driver can bond channels for outgoing traffic ONLY! and the
channels do not have to be ppp. you can bond a slip with a ppp or
cslip without much trouble. but it's out going.
the ml-ppp driver for linux can be found at http://mp.ins-coin.de/
And I was wrong about the kernel version. it's 2.1.37 - 2.1.43

Hello,
system: Red Hat 5.2 installation/Pentium processor/2.0.36 kernel which I
built
I have been successful in using my external 3ComImpact IQ to connect to
my ISP at 128k (both B channels) using pppd. Invoking ifconfig shows my
ppp0 interface active. But whenever I receive packets from my ISP they
are always discarded due to errors. Using 'kdebug 7' as an option to
pppd I was able to see the errors in a log file, here is one (all the
rest are the same except for the XXXX part):
Mar 1 18:46:21 superbox kernel: ppp: frame with bad fcs, excess = XXXX
Can my pppd problem be diagnosed with this information? If so, can
someone offer an explanation and a fix?
Thanks,
Rich Fellinger

It's not the correct solution to the problem, but one workaround would
be to set the linux box to automatically reboot itself every twelve
hours or so... man cron

Well, a good linux firewall package is linux. Firewalling is built right
into the kernel, unless you compiled one without it. Check out the
ipfwadm command.

Assuming you have regular IP Masquerading running correctly, and the
internal machine can make outgoing connections to the internet, all
you then have to do is get your hands on ipportfw, ipautofw, rinetd,
or any of the other port-forwarders. I use ipportfw. It can be found
at:

Hi!
Due to the behaviour of the new kernel 2.2.x series I have a routing
problem.
I don't want ifconfig to set the route automatically. Somewhere I have
read an article of Alan Cox stated that he added a feature to disable
the automatic routing, but I didn't find out, how.
Can somebody help, please?
Thanks

this, but I've always thought ipfwadm should be able to do it...

Hi,
I have managed to get isdn4linux working for a dialup server, I dial in using
Winows NT4.0.
My problem is that I can telnet to machines on the internal network using the
full numeric address but not
the name. The routing seems to work OK and I can run X sessions and netscape OK.
Curiously Netscape uses a proxy server which does seem to be happily recognised
as an IP name ??.
For this example my server is 10.0.2.2
my dns server is 10.0.2.4 and 10.0.2.5
I assign 10.0.2.7 and 10.0.2.8 dynamically to the remote dial in machine.
This is the content of my ioptions file

Also, but not a problem, I am interested in getting the BSD compression working,
as well as callback and MPPP with the
NT4.0 machine dialing in. Callback I think is not supported as the callback
type? is (6) which the man pages says is not supported.
How buggy is the BSD Comp ? and any hints on MPPP with a NT client ??
Thanks for any help

Deb,
Have you setup ftpaccess and others (ftphosts) see /etc/ftp*.
See the man pages for these things: man ftpaccess and
NET-3-HOWTO. search on ftpusers. This should stop the security
message. Not sure on the missing file, 5.2 has it there.

The kernel support is /usr/src/linux/drivers/net/ppp.c and, for the 2.0.x

The ppp-2.3.5 source package has a ppp.c that does support demand dialing

The ppp-2.3.5 source can be found at

You'll have to recompile the kernel to get the demand support and there
are problems with the ppp-2.3.5 ppp.c installation and with the ppp.c

: My experience the last two days is almost identical to the above. I've
: read the README.MSCHAP80 file and done everything it says (supposedly).
: I've re-compiled pppd with the MSCHAP options uncommented. And I've
: "made" the DES libraries. I just get a LCP: timeout sending Config-
: Requests. Any help anyone?
It's not a MSCHAP problem - yet. Pppd is sending the initial ppp
negotiation request and the NT is not responding or sending any of it's
own. This likely means that NT never really connected due to something
wrong in the chat script. Look for clues in the chat messages, they
are in /var/log/messages here.
ONe subtle thing that causes some ISPs trouble is <CONNECT ''> which
sends an extra carriage return. Try replacing it with <CONNECT \d\c>
or <CONNECT \\d\\c> depending on where chat gets the scriping from.
See "man chat" for the meanings of \d and \c .

See smbpasswd - its required. You have to log in from the MS
machine each startup unless you map the drive where you give it a
password and its remembered. Not sure about 98 machines but you
have to match encryption in smb.conf encrypt passwords = yes.
Have you setup your shares in the bottom section of the smb.conf?
Not sure about the not configures eth0. Not enough info. What
does the network look like and what's route report and what
specifically is the complaint.

Subject: ncpmount kills my system.
Date: Tue, 02 Mar 1999 14:36:42 GMT
Greetings to all venerable Linux gurus... :)
I am running redhat version 4.2 kernel 2.0.35 and I've kept up with most
of the patches for this version of redhat.
My system has in it a adaptech SCSI card, the 2690 I think, and SCSI
disk, CD, and tape. Our network environment has Novell servers running
Netware 4.11 and older versions, also several Novell SFT servers.
The problem happens after I use ncpmount to mont a drive from one of the
SFT servers to my Linux box. I can mount the drive, use it, then unmount
it with no problems... BUT everytime I do this, my Linux box will crash
within 24 hours of me having used ncpmount. If I do not use ncpmount, the
Linux box runs for months without problems.
When it crashes, it just stops running. No panic message, nothing in the
log files, it just dies silently.
I have a theory. Maybe the SFT server thinks my linux box is a workstation
and sends it a IPX packet that Linux doesn't know how to handle?
I would love to hear from people who are knowledgeable about this stuff,
any help would be appreciated.

Subject: glibc-2.0 and debugging resolver
Date: Tue, 2 Mar 1999 16:36:41 +0100

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====
Hi
I'm using glibc-2.0 and I would like to know where the debug messages are
sent when using the "options debug" paremeters of resolver
My exact configuration is:
options debug
search uv.es
nameserver 147.156.1.1
nameserver 147.156.122.64
nameserver 130.206.1.2
I downloaded the source of glibc-2.0 and I only see the function ftp_resstat
wich seems to be not used everywhere, also I traced _the library calls_
and I did not see any use of this of syslog functions...
Any comment will be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,
Ulisses
