Mr. Kite,
Thank you for your reply to my question.
I am unsure of what to do with the information you provided me:
The first address seems to be bad - no domain. The second nameserver
is dns.cns.net. These are nameservers for kvi.net:
kvi.net NS NS1-AUTH.SPRINTLINK.NET
kvi.net NS NS1.TRITON.NET
kvi.net NS NS1.kvi.net
using "host -t ns kvi.net" (capitals don't count here).
Could you tell me what the /etc/resolv.config file should look like?
I appreciate your help. Thank you,
Don Chorman

Has anyone tried to run a dhcp server(dhcp2.0b1p16) on a machine with
multiple interfaces and have it respond only to requests from one of the
interfaces? I'd like to have it only respond to requests from eth1. Any
ideas?

You are using the kernel-level NFS server which does not support
traversing server mount points. You need to export all partitions on the
server and mount them on the client. This is the way that Sun NFS has
always worked -- the Linux user-space NFS server implements behavior
that few other NFS servers support.

I believe that is a problem with MS Outlook rather than the pop3 server.
Certain Outlook versions would exit abruptly, without the proper protocol,
leaving a dead lockfile.
>If anyone has any info at all about this I would really like to know.
qpopper is free from Qualcomm, the same people who do Eudora.
http://www.eudora.com/freeware/qpop.html
However, it you use anything other than the usual /var/spool/mail for
incoming mail, you have to modify some variables in the C source to change
it.

If you look an "man dhcpd", you will find that you simply list the
interfaces that you want the daemon to respond to -- the rest are
ignored (e.g. dhcpd eth1).

I'm not aware of any way to configure Samba to properly remove the CR or ^M
as you mentioned (see cut/paste below). Windows/DOS stores ascii files with
a CRLF combination, UNIX stores ascii file with just a LF. FTP is one way of
removing/adding the CRLF between OS architectures. Another way to remove the
CR from a DOS file is to use "tr"
tr -d '\015' <dos_file >unix_file

!== CRLF-LF-Conversions.txt for Samba release 2.0.5a 22 Jul 1999
!==
We get many requests for CRLF/LF format conversion handling by samba.
The problem is that there is no clean way to determine which files
should / could be converted and which MUST not be.
Since Unix and DOS/Windows uses alike will use .txt to represent a
file containing ASCII text we can not reliably use the file extension.
The same applies to the .doc extension.
Samba operates around the premise that we should leave all files unchanged.
By not implmenting CRLF/LF conversions we can not be guilty of damaging
anyone's files.
When someone comes along with a sound implementation that guarrantees file
integrity we will jump at the opportunity to implement this feature. Until
such time there is no prospect for action on this topic.

I am getting the same problem with 2 cards. A 3com 3c905b and a Netgear
FA310TX. They are both at IRQ 10 I've tried to set them up in Linuxconf
and netcfg. The funny thing is I used to have these working. A while
back when I installed Mandrake, It automatically recognized the cards.
This time I'm running Phat Linux www.phatlinux.com and it doesn't see
them.
I'm pretty new at this but I do remember that when I install Mandrake
there was some kind of probing deal during the instalation. With
PhatLinux you just run it on your FAT 16 or 32 drive, so there is no
instalation involved.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Joel Peterson

^M is a carriage return. DOS/Win machines end lines of text with carriage
return/linefeed and Unix just uses linefeeds. When you upload or download
via ftp in ASCII mode, it automatically converts files for the destination
system. But I don't see anything similar for smbmount or smbclient.

As the last rule for your input chain, if you temporarily add...
ipchains -A input -j DENY -l (where the -l turns on logging),
then use nslookup, you will see an entry in your /var/log/messages showing
that the packet was denied because it is trying to use your loopback
interface. To solve the problem you will need to make sure that you include
your loopback interface in your ipchains rules. For example...
ipchains -A input -i lo -j ACCEPT

A while ago, I wrote a message to this group about my problems with
root-nfs in kernel 2.2.12. I fixed the problem by putting all the files
from a working machine in the client's root. However, I think there is
another way to solve it.
Before mounting the NFS filesystems, make sure the following two lines get
executed:
/sbin/portmap # or some way of loading portmap
sleep 2 # apparently, portmap needs some time to get ready
Another thing to try is giving all the NFS filesystems the nolock option
in /etc/fstab.

Once you change your address, you will need to restart your networking
components. You can do so by running...
network restart.
In RedHat, this script is located in the /etc/rc.d/init.d directory. I
assume it is the same for the other distributions.

Hey everyone. Many pardons if this has been asked before, but a long
search of dejanews.com has brought me up empty, so here goes.
I'm running a Linux machine on a cable modem. I could purchase
separate IP's if I chose to, but I'd rather not at $7/month per, plus
I enjoy a challenge.
All of the machines behind the linux firewall (there are 3) are Wintel
machines (I do a lot of graphics/audio work, etcetc) and have local
IP's setup (192.168.1.1, etc). They are all working properly -
masquerading is functioning nicely.
I'm hoping some of you out there are experienced using IIS behind such
a firewall and could point me in the right direction toward setting up
such a system? Why? I work at a company now which is pretty much
exclusively MSQL/VBScript, and I would simply like to make myself more
of an asset. I plan on moving to MySQL/PHPx after I get a good grip on
the basics of the Microsoft stuff, but I live in the here and now,
so... there you have it.
The Linux box is RH6, it is functioning currently as a web server
(Apache), I'm very familiar with all the basics of Linux networking, I
just sort of don't know where to start on this issue, which basically
stated is:
When my Linux firewall receives a request for a domain that I would
like to be served up from the IIS machine behind the Linux box, what
configurations do I make so that the request is routed properly?
