Damn! That's quite a few. Can you be more specific about what you are
trying to do? As in... poll how? Just to check to see if new mail has
arrived, or to actually download mail from all those accounts? If the
former, I suggest that fetchmail might not be the appropriate tool at all.
You might consider using something else to build a list of which accounts
have new mail, and then use fetchmail to pull down the mail. I would
suggest using several fetchmail processes in parallel, as this will likely
be much faster than just one fetchmail process polling one account after
another.

Hi all,
I've got linux setup with a cable modem, thats fine. I also have
another ethernet card connected to a lan. eth0 goes to the cable modem
(and the internet), and eth1 goes to a hub for our local network. I'm
using 192.168.0.* for the local ips. My question is, how do i set linux
up to route packets from the local network to the internet, so all the
pcs on the localnetwork can use the cable modem. I had it working under
Win95 using NAT...how do i simulate the same thing under linux? Please
email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you have an answer for me.
Thanks!
Andy

The only thing I see different from mine is the ``in'' after your zone
name.
Try taking them out to see what happens.
Like this...
zone "0.0.127.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "whatever";
};
Good luck

The IRQ's are not in conflict AFAIK, its on com2, using the usual
IRQ-4, and nothing else can be found in /proc thats using that one.
I've got those alias lines on /etc/conf.modules reading:
alias ppp-compress-21 slhc
alias ppp-compress-24 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
>From a message I'd seen a few weeks ago.
I've also seen that with the last 2 both pointing at ppp_deflate, and
the -21 pointing to bsd_comp.
Which is the correct useage?
I'm going to go find 2.3.9 and install it, but somehow I doubt its
going to be a fix. I might try the other version of those alias lines
too. And if I find a fix, I'll post it.

I ping the ip address (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). I have not yet set up address
resolution. That is how I was able to ping the NT machines from the
linux box.

I don't need the dos box . . . I use the run command, or the net
neighborhood, and I get the same response, and that is "the share cannot
be found on the network." And that is no surprise, since ip networking
is not working, and samba relies on tcp/ip.

What is the largest polling you have heard of and who is doing it?
Any other forums you can suggest? (not necesarily linux)
Any suggestions on how to start this or what issues to focus on.

Hello,
When a lot of network traffic passes through my Linux machine (used as
transparent proxy, ipchains, IP masquerading) sometimes the machine just
crashes. The screens goes black with a few strange colored lines on it, and
that's it. Rebooting gives me a second chance.
This Linux machine is connected to a cable modem using a network card.
I know nobody can solve this problem with this information, but I was
wondering whether someone had/has this problem too.

This is impossible to do perfectly, because the envelope is discarded when
your isp drops the mail in you mailbox. However, you could get as close as
any other software with procmail filtering.

crashes with some Java code. The only solution at the moment is to either
disable Java or downgrade to Netscape 4.08!

Well, although my english is rather poor, I try to help you. :-)
In C:\Windows (or the windows dir.) there is a file called hosts. If there
isn't one, create it. However there should be a file called host.sam
(sample). The content of this file is similar to /etc/hosts and you can
learn it from the sample file.
As far as I remember, it looks like that:
192.168.0.101 unicorn
192.168.0.102 phoenix
192.168.0.103 dragon
:-)) Easy. Netmask is 255.255.255.0. BTW. great names, aren't they?

Alessandro,
I think it'll depend on the model of hub you are using. The classical
approach, ruling out any trouble at all would be to use 2 T-pieces,
and three terminators. The next, more innovative approach would be to
use a terminator on the unused port without a T-piece and a T-piece
with 1 terminator on the other port, with your network connection. And
finally, the approach which very well may work as well, depending on
the device, could be to not use and T-pieces and connect the cable and
terminaor directly into the ports. This should work as well.
Just give it atry and see how you are going.

Greetings,
If the broadcasts are limited to a specific subnet, and possibly to one
machine, then here are a few things to check!
1. If generated from only one machine, replace the nic, it is
"jabbering" sputtering profusely at the mouth..
2. Is the cables good, I mean, have you used a time domain
reflectometer (TDR)to check them?
3. is the cable within the distance specs. If the cable is too long,
the cards will not recieve the bounce back within 2ns, which is outside
of their "poking their head out of their hole and looking around" time.

Make windows stop being chatty on my UNIX networks. I had to put them
on their own subnet and everything went through the roof for speed after
I did.

Greetings,
DO NOT configure IPX using Linuxconf! Mars will do this for you! If
you do configure the nic for ipx and mars wants the nic, Mars will
PANIC!
Mars works perfectly so far under 6.0 RedHat or Mandrake. I use
Mandrake distro at the moment. Worked flawlessly under RedHat 5.2!
The setting of the ipx is configured in /etc/nwserv.conf under item # 4.
As far as the steps 1-3, dump steps 1 & 2, only do 3.
If you are still having problems, I can send you my conf file to get you
started!

Minor, trivial, painus in the anus that I've found with BNC. It has to
be already plugged in when it's turned on. Most dual NICs will turn on
the 10BT port if there's not a connection already in place.
10B2 has to already be connected to the network when brought up. If
that doesn't work, try the WIN answer and reboot with it plugged in.
