You could add all sorts of checks to the script like, 

check that the permissions on the new file.
If wrong change them.
copy the old inetd to inetd.old before installing the new.
check to see if the new deamon is up and running before ending the script, if it
has failed start the old one up again.
One can do as much as one wants via a shell script.
The biggest secret is checking the script first before running it.
