Firstly thanx for the replies about BASIC stuff, I'm on the way to the
bookshop NOW.
This problem is related to the lucent PCI modem driver (I think)
When connecting to my ISP everything runs OK until "verifying user name and
password" then it says pppd died unexpectedly.
There are LOTS of error messages/stack traces/ core dumps in
/var/log/messages.
When I get the chance I will send them in.
