It looks like you said no to networking during your install, when i installed
RH7.1 and rebooted i could telnet and ftp out no problem. Yes incomming servers
are turned off by default.

One thing about xinetd it seems a far better way to do it all as Redhat seem to
have introduced much more security this way as compared to the old inetd way.
