noooo, it's a complete GUI (Graphical User Interface) API (Applications
programming interface) that lets you write programs under X that use windows,
mice and other stuff like that. It's actually not that interesting, try
GTK+ (www.gtk.org) it's FREE and much nicer!

No, you don't need motif on your system to _run_ motif programs, but you'll
need it's runtime libraries installed (which i think come free with Linux
ayway.. or maybe not, i can't remember), You need motif to
_compile_ motif programs, if it runs with motif try getting the
'statically linked' version, it'll be bigger but doesn't need motif to work.
there's a free version called LessTif (www.lesstif.org?) Which works the same
way as Motif but is free.
