to log the messages, use this:
startx 2>/tmp/mylog
(these messages are send to stderr by the X server)

Objet: X questions
I am trying to setup Linux at work using Redhat. I can't seem to get X
running after upgrading the X server from 3.2 to 3.3.2. I ran through
the Xconfiguator and whenever I type startx, I get the error:
failed to set default font path: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/, ....
Fatal server error:
could not open default font "fixed".
However, when I looked into the font paths, all of the fonts are there.
What can I do to fix this? The other question is that how do I save the
messages after typing startx? Thanks for your help.
