First do this: ps -aux | grep con
you should see something like 
crond -l8
just do 'killall crond'
then edit your cron to:
* * * * *  touch /tmp/.I_AM_WORKING
This will tell you if your crond is working. Just wait till the
minute changes and look for that file.

Here is an example from my crontab:
20 06 * * *  /apps/bin/wp /apps/snd/wav/wakeup.wav
This means at 6:20 am every day,month and year, it will run that
command.

To make sure you get up you can do this:
20,30,40 06 * * *  /apps/bin/wp /apps/snd/wav/wakeup.wav
So it will play at 6:20, 6:30 and 6:40.
