No need to get scared so soon.
You have to use an editor. There is vi, joe, eamcs and lots of others.
Whatever editor you use type something like this:
cd /etc
joe lilo.conf
Replace joe with another editor name if you don't like it. Joe is a bit
easier to use for someone coming from DOS/WIN world. After you enter into
joe, type Ctrl-K H. You will see a help for commonly used keys.
If you want to use vi/emacs, be sure to read an introductory article on
them beforehand. You will be quite clueless otherwise.
