The secret place is possably the boot sector.

There is the -u option under 'lilo' but that would have to be used before
you remove the linux partition one would imagen.

Would dos fdisk not remove it when you use,  'fdisk /mbr' or a variant
thereof.
I must admit i had never thought of this when i wrote in reply to the
question, but i did say i have never done it.

Anyway what problems were you encountering with Redhat.???
