My first Dristribtuion was slackware, i cant remember what version it was,
it had kernel 1.0.9, i upgraded slackware everytime there was a new release
out, but i cannot recall ever seeing such a file on a dos partition.
Maybe i missed it. ;-)

Not to worry, the origanal poster said he has a working install now.
