It means that gated is running, which you probably don't want it to be.
I would recommend that you remove the script that is starting gated
(somewhere in /etc/rc.d, depending on your distro).

news is the user that innd and other news related programs use. If you
are not using your machine as a news server, then you do not need to be
runnign any news related things and you might as well uninstall innd etc.
If you are using your machine for news, then this is harmless (it was
probably an expire running or something similar from a crontab).
