Firewalls - Flame away :-)

Hi there. I have some questions about firewalls. I'm starting to understand
how to configure them, but I'm confused about how to add them to a network.
I assume that you plug the router into the firewall and the firewall into
the rest of the network by using two network cards. Is this correct? If not,
then how?
