Well, I have never used such software before, but I'm pretty sure they exist.
However, thanks to the power and flexibility of bash, there really isn't any
need for such software. You can use lynx to perform the download in the
following manner:
Command line...
ccorner:~$ ppp-on ;\

...or in a script
ppp-on
lynx -source http://dat.org/index.html > index.html
lynx -source http://dat.org/bigfile.tar.gz > bigfile.tar.gz
ppp-off
The only problem is that lynx insist on sending it's output to standard out,
which may be a little inconvenient. This can be solved by using a download
utility like got_it (available at http://roger.samond.ru/).
If you prefer a graphical interface, you can try running the following script
with the command "rxvt -e scriptname". It requires the program "got_it" and
"joe", but can be adapted to work with other programs as well.
#!/bin/bash
ppp-on
got_it -p=proxy.cyberway.com.sg -n8080 -l- $(echo -n |joe -)
ppp-off
echo All done!

You may have a little problem replacing "joe" with another editor as most
editors cannot write to standard out.
