Screen Blackout w/ startx

Hi,

I have just installed the Linux on my computer ...
I am novice to PC-unix.
Everything looks okay. network, services(http, ftp, telnet, ... )
but when I type startx
it sounds like working but the screen black out.
Sometimes I got 320x200 like resolution window manager.

I tried the Xconfigurator to change the settings but it didn't work out.

I have 2MB Trident 9660 video card and Sony 100sx monitor.

Any suggestions on what to do or where to read?
