That URL is only for GCC error problems, however your problem seems to be
that the kernel module ppp.o is not getting loaded try 'modprobe ppp' before
anything else. Then 'lsmod' for a modules list, the same information can be
obtained from 'cat /proc/modules'.

If you read the man page for the kerneld daemon, it will explane about auto
loading of modules.
