Hi Adrian:

I have experience installing Slackware and RedHat and neither
distribution asks you whether you what language you want your HOWTO's in
so you get them all by default (RedHat definitely, Slackware I can't
remember).

The only way I have found to prevent this in RedHat is to check the
'box' at the bottom of the dialog box that asks you what packages you
want to install that says 'verify packages individually' or somesuch.
The next screen you get after saying ok will show you packages groups
you are about to install. Choose 'Documentation' and uncheck the
languages you don't need HOWTO's in. This can save up to 100M on an
Everything RedHat install.
If you have already installed and want to get rid of 100M of stuff you
will never need I recommend starting X as root and using the package
manager utility in control-panel to unload the extra docs.

This is a pet peeve of mine too. Why would I want to install Japanese
HOWTOs (just to use an example) when I am installing from an English
terminal screen? Wouldn't it make more sense to install the
documentation only in the language that I pick at the beginning of the
install.
I realize that hard drives are incredible cheap these days but they
aren't free.

Regards,
Scott
It's not "Where do you want to go today?" ...It's more like "What did I
do to deserve this today?"
