I may be able to help. Check out the small distro (Slackware-based) that I
put together for a project (CD^3 -- http://www.kinetic.org/cd3.html). The
entire distro is stored in Flash on an embedded system. It fits in less
than 4MB (8MB including X11R6 SVGA). The entire system uses less than 2MB
of RAM while running (not including X). You could probably trim it down
some more by eliminating some of the MP3 and audio utilities that I have
in there (I needed them for the CD^3 project). The distro is available at
my FTP site at ftp.kinetic.org and there is a direct link to it from
http://www.kinetic.org/cd3-status.html or
http://www.kinetic.org/cd3-software.html

Hope this helps. :)
