Hi John,
You should also visit http://www.qnx.com.
QNX is a real-time micro-kernel O.S for embedded systems,
although commercial, this is informative while you are investigating.
They have placed an basic Unix (POSIX) O.S plus
an Xwindow GUI with Web server, Web Browser, Basic X-Fileman,
X-editor and a little more in an 1.44 floppy.
Amazing...?
They have also placed an X ppp-dialer so you connect
to their site an find more.
Nice test to the web browser:
Dial from another machine to the internet and access that
floppy-booted machine as http://<ip_address>.The Web Browser
will respond.
Nice test to the editor:
Edit (in memory) the file hosts for example an save.
And you can play more.
You can download a zip or tar archive and create a bootable floppy
(in Windogs or Linux) to try it.
The link is not responding this moment, but used to be that one,
else you can try a search.
If all fails I can see if I have saved a copy of the tar archive.
my best regards,
Alvaro.
