The executables (like a *.bat in DOS) - like you say - are these
scripts: ppp-on and ppp-off, but you must to change the access
permisions of these files. As root you must run:
chmod 755 ppp-on
chmod 755 ppp-off
chmod 755 ppp-on-dialer
in the directory where are these files.
For running these scripts you need to go in their directory and enter:
./ppp-on
./ppp-off
or you can make two symbolic links from these scripts in /usr/sbin
directory and you can run directly ppp-on and ppp-off wherever you are.
The best documentation is on the RedHat CD; somewhere there is a RedHat
manual in HTML format and there are a lot of information about PPP.
