% Hi all..

alt.os.linux.slackware specifically deals with Slackware.
The comp.os.linux.* hierarchy is also good.

% To be specific, I am wondering if there is a shell that comes with the

Hmm, not that I'm aware of.

Oh, well, scrap the usenet stuff I mentioned above..

In Slackware, look under /usr/doc/faq/howto (or maybe it's
/usr/doc/faq/howtos - been a long time since I looked at a Slackware
installation. The whole /usr/doc tree is a good place to start, in any
event. Which presumes you installed the documentation.

% I know these are probably extremely simple problems..that's why I was hoping

Well, if you can get to the Internet somehow, www.linux.org, www.linuxhq.org
and slashdot.org are all good web sites with loads of information.

My recommendation is a book such as _Running Linux_, _Linux in a Nutshell_ or
even _Linux for Dummies_ (if you can tolerate it).
