Because I'm running a one-person machine, I'd like as user to run ppp-on and ppp-off. To do this I ran chmod u+s /usr/sbin/pppd, and I set rwxrwxrwx permissions for the /etc/ppp directory and for ppp-on, ppp-off, and ppp-on-dialer. But when I run ./ppp-on form a prompt in the directory, nothing happens. ppp-on works fine for root. If I can get this to work, then I'd like to run ppp-on demand. That is, I'd like to start ppp if I send an e-mail message or fetchmail, and then have it close after a brief timeout without activity. I gather pppd 2.3 supports this, but don't know how to set up the options file specified in man pppd. Help would be appreciated. Haines Brown
