Aren't libraries fun?
stat was defined in libc5, in glibc it is only in libc.a.
There is a litle script file, usually in /usr/lib, named libc.so
that is meant to take care of this that sometimes gets lost,
but I think it's just for ld, not for dynamic links. Libtcl from
RH 5.0 has a reference to _xstat, but none to stat, and that is
what happens to stat() when I compile locally. Oh, ho, it's an
inline, and there are notes in <sys/stat.h> that if stat is not
inlined it is to be static linked to control the version of the
stat structure it uses. That's why they took it out of glibc.so.
Sorry, folks, I'm afraid RedHat has screwed the pooch this time
and shipped a libtcl that won't work on its own systems. If you
have a libtcl from rh 5.0 handy - or the whole tcl package, try
dropping it in with --oldpackage or --force, do ldconfig and
see if the problem goes away. And report a bug to RedHat. They
should be in a fair sweat to get it fixed.
If you are missing libc.so I can easily mail you one, but I don't
think that's the problem this time.
