Hello everybody:

Happy new year to all! After three months running Linux, I finally was
able
to make my printer work. YEAH!!! I asked in a couple of newgroups and I
got
really good answers (I think). The thing was that something was not
working
but some people made me feel TOO STUPID to ask the same question again.
Well I got it to work and if any other newbie care, this is what I did:

Download your choice of filters here (aps, magicfilter-1.2, etc):

    ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/linux/sunsite/system/printing/

Make a new directory for your printer, in my case HP DeskJet 500, I just

called it dj:

    mkdir /var/spool/lpd/dj

I made this entry in my printcap after installing magicfilter-1.2 in
directory:

    /var/spool/lpd/dj/magicfilter-1.2

        # DeskJet500
        lp|dj|deskjet:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj:\
        :mx#0:\
        :lp=/dev/lp1:\
        :if=/var/spool/lpd/dj/magicfilter-1.2/filters/dj500-filter:\
        :sh:

I hope somebody can use this.
