Hello, everyone. I have a question for y'all:
It would seem that my pppd is killed almost immediately after it starts
using any of the non-GUI scripting programs that I can find. Both RedHat
UserNet and kppp work like champs once I have them configured correctly,
but diald, wvdial, etc, etc, never seem to work.
        Now, up to this point, I have lived with the hassle of having to
start X and wait for my root menu to _finally_ finish doing whatever it
does, but now I am using WindowMaker more often and kppp does not behave
well in this environment. Plus, I would much rather type "wvdial" than
wait while the gui grinds away...
        ...and here begins my problem. After scrapping xisp because it
was claiming that my xispdialer was not where it should be (when it
clearly was), I found wvdial, and was very impressed by its effective
simplicity. However, it still has the same problem that every non-gui
dialer has had up to this point: it dies as soon as pppd kicks in. Here's
a sample from the wvdial dialogue:
Entering PPP Session.
IP address is <blah>
MTU is <blah>
<PPP garbage>
-->PPP negotiation detected.
-->starting pppd at Wed. Aug 19 00:18:58 1998
-->PPP daemon has died! (exit code=1)
-->Disconnecting at Wed. Aug 19 00:18:58 1998

        Any ideas? As I have said, it's not just this program that does
this.  TIA.
                                                -Chris
