I just installed XFree86-3.3.3 and got X up and running on my new
computer. Everything is great except that when I run in the highest
resolution (1024x768) my desktop does not fill up the whole monitor
screen. This is not to be confused with my desktop being off-center
but that there is a gap on the left hand side of the screen and top of
the screen. It's all being displayed just not using all of the real
estate the screen has to offer. I've tried xvidtune to center and
'expand' the screen but it doesn't seem to work, one problem there
could be that I can only move the screen one 'click' to the left
before it beeps at me and I can't go any further.
I'm using a 17inch Sony Trinitron Multiscan 200ES and I used
xf86config to write my XF86Config file. I've specified my horizontal
and verticle rates at 30-70 and 50-120 (where you can enter your own
values). My vid card (in case it matters) is an ATI Charger AGP 4 meg
card. Which is working like a champ other than this little annoying
piece. I think it's got something to do with my monitor settings,
which BTW are straight out of my manual.
What is a safe 'setting' for my monitor? How can I get X to use all
of the screen real estate available?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Jeff
