Since I'm not certain if you modified the log entries in a couple of spots,
I can't be certain as to what happened. So let's see if any if this proves
helpful.

Oversimplifying just a bit, there are three ways to authenticate a ppp
connection:

1. userid/password -- this involves using the normal Unix procedure for
logging in, except that instead of starting a shell, it starts the other
end's equivalent of pppd. This appears to be what you are trying.

2. pap -- this is an authentication scheme run by pppd after it starts
running. How one would start the pppd equivalent on the other end is not
obvious; presumably you would have instructions from your ISP about how to
do it (an example would be to type "ppp" at the "login:" prompt).

3. chap -- this is another authentication scheme run by pppd. The same
comments that apply to pap apply here. This is what you say your ISP wants.

With this as background, I see two possibilities:

1. You need to change the chat expect/reply exchanges so they no longer send
your uderid and password, but instead send something else that your ISP will
have told you. Check the "how to connect" instructions from your ISP for this.

2. You put the wrong userid/password information in your chat script. This
is where I am not clear as to whether you modified the log entries you sent.

I assume you have replaced the text of your real password with "mypassword"
for security reasons (and you certainly should do so). But I am puzzled by
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]", which also looks like a substitution but does not need to
be replaced for security reasons. In any case, I would expect this line to
read "myname", not "myname@mydomain", as you have it. If what is here
corresponds to how you are trying to enter the data, this may be the source
of the login failure.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
