Hi All -
I now have two separate PPP accounts to manage: one to my ISP and one to
my company network. I'm using RedHat 5.2's linuxconf to do most of the
setup and it has done a reasonable job of handling both PPP setups.
However there are a couple of loose ends that I'm hoping someone can
help me with.
1) DNS. I have multiple DNS entries for both accounts and seem to only
have one resolve.conf file. Is the correct thing to put all the DNS
entries in the same file? From what I've read this seems to give
priority to the earlier entries in the file which isn't what I want when
using the PPP connection that has the later entries. Is there a more
preferred approach here?
2) Gateways. My corporate network supplied me with a fixed gateway IP
address in addition to the normal PPP setup info. Part of my problem is
that i'm not sure just what purpose this gateway serves. linuxconf
doesn't explicitely associate it with a PPP connection and the PPP Howto
and FAQ don't seem to clearly address it (or if they do, I'm just dumb
;-). By poking around some documentation and a little hacking (I don't
know the first thing about IP routing) I was able to see my corporate
network after issuing the following commands:
route add -net 9.25.20.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 dev ppp0
route add default gw 9.25.20.1
where 9.25.20.1 is my gateway IP address. I'm not sure exactly what I've
done here and I really don't want to have to issue these commands
everytime I bring up my corporate ppp connection. Does someone know the
correct way to deal with this?
Thanks in advance - Jon
