It *may* be a problem with drive paramaters, but that's not the most likely
source of the problem. A half-gig drive on an old system is unlikely to have
weird parameters. More likely is a failure to write the Master Boot Record
correctly. If this is the problem, you probably need to do the following:
1. Boot using a floppy that will set your hard disk partition (probably
/dev/hda1) as root (/). Slackware "rescue disks" do this; I imagine RH ones
do as well.
2. Log in as root and run "lilo".
3. See if you can boot from the hard disk now.
I don't use RH, but I've had a similar problem with Slackware 3.5. The setup
routines didn't run lilo properly (though they set up lilo.conf just fine),
and all I needed to do was run it by hand.
