>Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks...This guy has a large drive (over 8.4 gigs/over 1024 cylinders) and can't
seem to get lilo to boot up regularly, so he's trying the above method.
He's using slackware 3.6 if that helps.please reply here and/or privately if you could. Thanks!
Charles
I have a 6.4 gig HD and am using Win 98/FAT32 and Red Hat Linux
5.2. Here is what I did:
1. Installed Win 98 w/FAT32 on the whole drive
2. Used FIPS (found on the RH CD) to equally partition the drive
in two: (FIPS is a great utility but can get you in trouble if not
done cautiously...)
Win 98 is on C:\
3. Started the RH Linux Custom install:
Disk Druid recognized Win 98 partition (C:\)
as hda1 Type FAT 32
4. Made Linux Native and Swap as hda5 and hda6, respectively.
5. Chose to make the Linux Boot Disk, but NOT install LILO anywhere
(in other words, chose Skip when asked where I wanted LILO installed).
To boot to Linux, I insert the Linux Boot floppy in the drive.
To boot to Win 98, I eject the floppy and reboot.
The best part is I can access all my Win 98 files from within Linux
by mounting hda5 as VFAT.
I'm sure there is much user-friendly way to accomplish what I've done, but I have found this quite satisfactory--and as a complete newbie I'm rather proud of it!
