A dot before a file will 'hide' the file under a normal ls command.  A lot
of config file use the dot, to 'get them out of the way' Alot of times
after the config file has been edit none one uses, only a program that
gets info at startup time, so it hides so it doesn't cutter you home
diretory.  To see the hidden files add an 'a' flag the ls: ls -a  Do it in
your home directory and you'll find a bunch of stuff
