Funny you should ask. I was asking earlier today about modems that work with
Linux, and another list member (Mike Werner <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) referred me
to URL http://www.o2.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html . This is a VERY
comprehensive list of internal modems, identifying the ones that work with
Linux and the ones that are Winmodems. I suggest you look there before
deciding what to do.

The internal versus external debate (other than the Winmodem part) is
complex, and you need to read or listen to all the arguments and decide for
yourself. Me, I use an external modem, but that's just because it's an old
modem I already had (moved it from a Mac, in fact); were I to buy new, I'd
look for an internal "real" modem.
