Excuse the dumb questions, but:

1) What exactly is ment by "desktop". (in contrast to Window Manager)

2.a) I've also heard that WindowMaker supports KDE. How is this possible?
(That a Window Manager supports another window manger?)

2.b) What exactly does it support?

3) A little off topic: is it possible to launch a non-GNOME app from
    the GNOME panel?

thanks,
