KDE comes with an XDM type server. (KDM)  This allows you to have XDM do the
X Authentication(I believe...not sure...) while using another manager that
supports KDE extensions.  I believe that what WindowMaker is stating is that
they support the KDE Extensions.

I don't know exactly the answers to these last questions, I am a newbie to
