When you switch from win95 to linux, i think that you just choose (restart computer) or hit Ctrl-alt-del (under dos). That is not enough to reset the cards plugged into your computer. If you rebooted like this, then try to reboot by shutting down windows AND pressing the RESET button of your computer (1 second). This should send a reset to all the cards plugged.
