I am running Linux RH5.1 and Windows 98 on the same machine. It
is running with an AMD K6-2 processor, and I upgraded the video
card to a Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix with 16mg SGRAM. The
manual refers to the chipset as "3Dfx Voodoo", which is not
listed under any video card on the XFree86 list. The card's
documentation states that the processor runs at 100MHz and is
128-bit. I tried physically looking at the chipset, but it is
covered with a heat sink.
I ran Xconfigurator and attempted using the XF86_SVGA server, and
startx failed stating that there was not enough memory--even at
the lowest resolution setting. I believe it only saw 64K of
memory. I then attempted loading it as a generic VGA card, but
startx failed stating that the X server was missing.
Is there an X server that might work with my new video card?
Which ones should I try?
Since it seems my original install only loaded the Xserver that
worked with my old card, how do I load other X servers?
Would it help to download XFree86-3.3.3.1? (If the answer is
yes, this begs the question: How do I install it was I have
download all the various files?)
