I have both Windows 95 and Windows NT4 installed and they both work fine with 256, 65536 or True Color. I haven't had any problems with the video card until now.

I have successfully recompiled the kernel from the command line. I still have problems with unresolved modules but this isn't a problem this time as it is a brand new installation.

I'm not quite ready to buy a new card yet, I'd like to get this one running. I suspect it may have something to do with NEC's adaptation of the Alliance ProMotion chipset?
