Depends on the screen you're using.
If it's a normal command line utility, use redirection
"ls -la > screendump"
If you want to capture the screen while under X, there are many tools
available. I prefer GIMP, since it does so much more than screen shots.
A screen dump of a curses style program (emacs), would be much more
difficult.
