It probably is.  I can't see why that would fail though, unless /usr is
not mounted when the module gets inserted possible?

probably that means that your .sbk does not contain all instruments.  If
the .mid file uses instruments that are not in your .sbk then you will not
hear them since the synth doesn't know how to play them.
