kernel patches dont come in rpm format, or i have never heard of them.
To upgrade your kernel you have 2 choises.
Get the complete tar archive which is now i belive 12M +.
Get the patch.
Example;
you are running 2.2.0 and want to upgrade to 2.2.2
get patch-2.2.1.gz and patch-2.2.2.gz
For easyness'es sake place them in /usr/src
cd /usr/src
gzip -cd patch-2.2.1.gz | patch -p0 -s
gzip -cd patch-2.2.2.gz | patch -p0 -s
cd linux
make oldconfig dep clean zImage
Now follow the steps in /usr/src/linux/README about copying the new image
and rerunning lilo.
New Kernel source.
cd /usr/src
rm linux
mkdir linux-2.2.2
ln -s linux-2.2.2 linux
tar xzf linux-2.2.2.tar.gz
cd linux
make mrproper
Check that you have symlinks as explained in /usr/src/linux/README.
make config
make dep clean zImage
Follow the steps in the README from here on.
If you are using 2.2.X then i would use patches, it will save you time and
money.
