Hi,
        I was reading about APM in linux, and I found I need a new
kernel (which I have) and recent versions of halt. So I went to the
suggested site and I found that I want ver 2.76, the files were in the
following formats;

sysvinit-2.75.tar.gz
sysvinit-2.76.tar.bz2
sysvinit-2.76.dif
sysvinit-2.76.patch

I know about how to unzip and un-tar the .tar.gz format, but what
are the rest, and how do I go about using them? I assume I need to
install the 2.76.tar.bz2 then patch it and then 'make' it, but how do
I install bz2?

Cheers,
Simon.
