Dear All

I'm trying to do a completely new install of Redhat 5 .2 - 2.0.36on a
compaq deskpro xl 566 with a built in PCI NIC.

All goes well until I get to the part where I need to designate the
NIC. When I choose the card AMD PC Net I am then asked to select
autoprobe. However on doing this the setup program says it is unable to
find the card. I have also tried manually setting the port and irq but
to no avail.

So far I've done the following:

Checked the BIOS - card enabled, irq 5 port 7000h - 701Fh.

Took the lid off and found the chip - AMD PCNet SCSI 79C974KC

Read the Ethernet HOW TO which seems to indicate the card is supported.

Tried designating card as both LANCE and AMD PC Net, on each occasion
both autoprobing and manually setting irq and port (I even tried just
setting irq). The command I used was

ether=5,7000
ether=0,0
ether=5

All to no avail.

Am I missing something (probably)?
Would recompiling the kernel and "forcing it accept the AMD card work?
If I do this where do I set the irq/port address?
Is this the correct port address?

Any help would be much appreciated

Paul
